Abstract (EN)

This research was conducted to determine the beliefs of 7th grade students about mathematics and mathematicians. The study was carried out with 33 students studying at Ahmet Şerife Sanlı Secondary School in Efeler District of Aydın Province in the 2018-2019 academic year. A qualitative research design, phenomenology, was used in the study. 12 students were interviewed and 33 students were photographed. During the interviews, a questionnaire consisting of 11 questions was applied and students were asked to draw a mathematician that they imagined. In the photo event, all students were asked to take 10 pictures of mathematics. The photographs were combined in a common pool and the students were asked to select 5 photos in groups and to take note of why they chose these photos. As a result of the research; It was found out that students perceived mathematical situations as situations in which they encountered in their daily lives. It is concluded that mathematicians perceive them as introvert, non-social, intelligent and aggressive people.
