Investigation of classroom climate perceptions and learning styles of middle school 7th grade students through various variables

The purpose of this research is to examine the classroom climate perceptions and learning styles of seventh grade middle school students. The sample of the study consists of 353 students studying in the middle schools of the city center of Çankırı. Cluster sampling and random sampling methods were used to determine the participants of the study. As the data collection tools of the study; Personal Information Form, Classroom Environment Scale and Grasha-Riechmann Student Learning Style Scales were used, and the analysis of the obtained data was done with SPSS 22 and Lisrel 8.80 package programs. The results showed that in terms of classroom climate perceptions, the students had the most consensus about the clarity of the rules in their classrooms, and the least about the order and organizational structure. When their learning styles were examined, it was found that the students mostly had dependent and least had avoidant learning styles. According to the students' demographic information the comparison of their perceptions of classroom climate showed that there were differences in their perceptions according to gender, father's work status, mother's, and father's education level, having a study room, having a device and connection to the internet. When the learning styles were compared according to their demographic information, it was determined that there were differences in the learning styles of the students according to gender, father's education level, having a study room and internet connection. In addition, correlation analyzes showed that students' perception of classroom climate and learning styles were related to each other, as well as to their course achievement and class sizes.
