Learning the subject of population in secondary school 7th grades with an active learning based lesson plan

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of active learning-based lesson plan approach on learning the subject of population in the seventh grade Social Studies course in secondary school. The effect of the draft lesson plan based on active learning prepared in this direction, on the teaching of population in the seventh grade social studies lesson and on the learning status of students is discussed. This research was applied to 7th grade students studying at Yapraklı Secondary School in Yapraklı district of Çankırı province. The aim of this study is to examine the effect of active learning-based lesson plan approach on learning. In the study, one-group pre-test and post-test experimental design, which is one of the quantitative research methods, were used. The measurement tool developed by the researcher was determined as the dependent variable. The study group consists of 6 students studying at Yapraklı Secondary School. First of all, a pre-test consisting of 15 questions was applied to the study group. Afterwards, the lesson plan enriched with various educational games and activities was applied. At the end of the study, the measurement tool used as a pre-test was re-applied as a post-test. The pre-test and post-test responses of the students were examined using the Paired Samples Test in the SPSS 25.0 package program. The Two-Factor ANOVA test was used to measure the achievement levels between female and male students. According to the data obtained, no significant difference was found between the pre-test and post-test total learning variable scores of the girls and boys groups. In addition, a statistically significant difference was found between the pre-test and post-test results of the study group in favor of the post-test scores. In the research, extensive literature reviews on the subject were made and Coşkun's works including draft lesson plan examples were used. It is thought that the active learning-based lesson plan developed for this research will be used by educators.
