The effect of cooperative learning method on helpfulness value on students' attitudes teaching at middle school sixth grade social studies course

In this study, effect of teaching value of "helpfulness" by the method of cooperative learning is examined. There fore posttest -control group model is employed. Additionally, quantitative data is supported by qualitative methods. In the quantitative dimension of the research, "student recognition form", "Helpfulness Attitude Scale" are used. The study group consists of approximately 100 students studying in the 6th grade of Melahat Öztoprak İmam Hatip Secondary School in 2017-2018 academic year in İstanbul. 6-G (25 students) and 6-I (25 students), 6-F (24 students) and 6-İ (22 students) are involved in the study as the control group. The related units are given by the researcher to the students; in the experimental group by the cooperative learning method contrary to this, to the control group by the traditional method. SPSS program is used for the evaluation of quantitative data. There was no significant difference of student' attitudes between the of the experimental and control group students regarding the value of "helfulness". Students' attitude scores show an essential difference in pursuant of family income and education statue. Keywords: Cooperative Learning, Social Sciences, Value of Helpfulness
