A practice study concerning three dimensional plastic (Ceramic clay) appli̇cation in a secondary school 5th grades visual arts lesson

Art education practices are changing gradually as time is proceeding. Alongside the two dimensional education there has been the requirement of using different dimension and equipment as well as certain enrichment in technical applications. Due to this requirement art based education creates a very important function. The target of this resarch is to observe the process of the art work which is formed three dimensionally using relief and seramic clay by the fifth grade students and observe the difficulties that occur while passing to three dimensional art works from two dimensional art works. With this aim our research is designed by art based research and a practice study. The research was conducted in Turkish Educational Foundation Zahide Zehra Secondary School workshop in 2014-2015 and applied to 5th grades students in visual art lessons and activities conducted apart from the lessons. The practice took place between 18th February and 8th December 2014. During the research 3 practice were applied and before each practice the methods of application were discussed with the students. After that the process of forming the art products took place. Within four weeks the work was completed and the necessary data was collected. With all the applications, photos were taken regularly and the study was documented with visual support. The research was applied to all the students joining the workshop. Thirteen students joined the study and 6 students joined as internal sampling. At the end of each practice semi structured questions were asked to six focus students. During the research the data, video recordings, semi structured questions, research diary, photographs and student products were obtained. The security of the data was achieved by the evaluation of mutilple individuals. Key Words: Art Education, Plastic Structuring, Three Dimensional Work
