The reflection of the non-denominational approach in the textbooks to the teachinng the subjects of worship in secondary school religious culture and moral knowledge courses

Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge (RCMK) course curriculum, it is stated that as from 2000s, an non- denominational approach above religious has been took on teaching of Islam as a religious scientific approach. In the curriculum renewed the last time in 2018, it is understood that this approach continues with the statement that "the interpretations that arise in Islamic thought are considered by a scientific method and non- denominational approach (MEB, 2018)". To examine the state of reflection of the non- denominational approach expressed in the curriculum on the topics of worship found in the RCMK coursebooks is the aim of our research. In the study, data was collected from qualitative research methods through document review. Then, This data was evaluated through content analysis. There are two types of data sources: the RME course curriculum and coursebooks, both of which were updated in 2018. In our study, the books chosen for grades 5 and 8 are from Ministry of National Education (MoNE) publications and books selected for 5 and 7 are from private publications. .As a result of the research, it was found that the textbooks studied significantly reflect a non- denominational approach when processing worship topics, but do not reflect on issues such as the concept of wajib, the performance of prayer, the provision of Umrah worship, whether zakat can be given from ornaments, the ratio of zakat under it. In addition, it was found that the worship topics contained in the books of the MoNE publication are more suitable for a non- denominational approach than the worship topics contained in the books of the private publications.
