The effect of learning strategies used based on the 5E learning model in the process of secondary mathematics courses on the academic success of students

The purpose of the research is to examine the effect of using learning strategies in the teaching of secondary school mathematics lessons on the academic achievement of students. For this purpose, an 11-step model proposal was developed for the use of learning strategies in mathematics lessons based on the 5E learning model, and the effect of this developed model on the academic achievement of students was investigated. The intervention design, one of the mixed method designs, was used in the research. In the quantitative dimension of the study, a pretest-posttest control group experimental model was used. In the experimental groups, while the lessons were taught in accordance with the 11-step learning strategies model developed based on the 5E learning model; In the control group, the lessons were taught in accordance with the mathematics program. Research data were collected through Learning Strategies Scale, achievement tests, observation, interview and document review methods. Percentage, frequency distributions, pearson correlation, Shapiro-Wilk Z Test, One Way Analysis of Variance, Kruskal Wallis H Test, Dependent Group t-Test and Mann-Whitney U Test were used in the analysis of the quantitative data collected in the study. Descriptive analysis was used in the analysis of qualitative data. As a result of the research, it was seen that the students in the experimental groups were more successful academically and used learning strategies more than the students in the control group. In addition, it was observed that there was a positive development in the perspectives of the students in the experimental groups towards the mathematics lesson.
