A research on secondary school math teachers' use of sourcebook besides textbook

Abstract (EN)

This study aims to investigate the opinions of secondary school math teachers on textbook and using sourcebook except textbook. A hundred secondary school mathematics teachers participate in this research. A survey consists of open-ended questions was conducted for the participant teachers and all categories are included. Data obtained from the survey is observed with content analysis approach and categories are formed for each question. As a result of the research, it is concluded that most of the teachers (80%) use sourcebook other than the textbook. Among the main factors that oblige the teachers to use sourcebook besides the textbook, the inadequacy of the textbook in terms of teaching subjects and the examplary questions particularly becomes a notable finding. Moreover, the teachers state that they find the textbook inadequate for central examinations they draw benefit from sourcebooks on teaching subjects and solving exemplary questions. In that regard, it is suggested that a betterment in quality of the math textbooks of the secondary school in terms of the subjects to teach and the exemplary questions, it is suggested that will contribute to cover the needs of the teachers in this aspect.
