Estimation of secondary education completion of secondary school graduates by data mining: A case study of Trabzon

This thesis attempted to explain the relationship between school dropout and secondary school statistics of students who graduated from secondary school in formal education and began to receive education at formal secondary education levels. For this objective, logistic regression analysis was performed on data from students who graduated from secondary school in Trabzon in the academic years 2013-2014, 2014-2015, using the data mining method. According to the findings of this study, there is a significant relationship between the number of siblings of the students and formal education and dropout. There is no significant relationship between father's education level and dropout in our study, but there is a significant relationship in terms of mother's education level. It is observed that within the scope of the findings, there is a significant difference between secondary school absenteeism and formal education dropouts, a significant difference between the scores and diploma grades used for secondary school dropouts in formal education and the transition to high schools. Also, a significant difference between the students' knowledge of the graduated secondary school settlement and the dropout is observed. Based on the findings, it is possible to conclude that characteristics such as the mother's education level, the number of siblings of the pupils, the student's previous absenteeism, etc. have a major impact in school dropout. As a result, it can be stated that it would be beneficial to consider the aforementioned variables in research aimed at preventing school dropout.
