An investigation into problem solving adequecies of middle school principles in the context of talent management

In this study, the problems experienced by the administration in a public secondary school were identified and it was aimed to determine the problem-solving competencies of the school principal within the context of talent management by performing a design in line with the talent management applications for the solution of the abovementioned problems. The research was conducted by the use of a design-based research model under the umbrella of qualitative research methods. Interview, observation, and document review were used as data collection tools. The descriptive analysis method was applied in the analysis of the data. According to the findings obtained from the research, a total of 24 problem areas were identified in 6 categories at the school. In order to solve these problems, the implementation of talent management phases has been started by determining the mission, vision, and core values in accordance with the talent management approach. As a consequence of the data collected from the research, it was found that the most used talent management stages in solving the problems experienced at school were listed as determining goals and strategies, identifying key positions, determining necessary competencies, selecting and placing talents, and the least used steps were training and development, performance management, and retention and commitment. It was reached to the conclusion that the employability of the talent management approach in solving the problems experienced in school management is 61.3%. One further result showed that the school principal should have 28 competencies in the context of talent management. Keywords: Talent, Talent Management, Executive competence
