The views of music teachers about accompaniment of songs with maqam content in secondary schools music textbooks

In thıs research, it is aimed to take and evaluate the opinions of music teachers about accompaniment of songs with maqam content in secondary school music textbooks. School songs with maqam content in music textbooks of the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades of secondary school were examined in terms of maqam, cadence sounds and tempos, and they were classified by the grades. The quantitative dimension of this research, which is based on the mixed method, is formed by the scanning model, while its qualitative dimension is created by the explanatory desing in which the quamtitative data is collected and analysed, and then the qualitative data is gathered. Within the scope of the research, the first part of the questionnaire applied to music teachers consists of the questions about personal information, the second part of it has interview questions with 5 items, and the third part of it is composed of 34 questionnaire questions to determine the status of accompaniment of songs with maqam content The sample of the study consisted of 300 music teachers working in 55 provinces at 6 grades, which were formed by taking into account the data of SEGE-2017. A questionnaire was applied to music teachers working at secondary schools to obtain quantitative data about accompaniment of songs with maqam content, and a semi-structured interview form was applied to them for obtaining qualitative data about it. According to the results of the research, it was found that most of music teachers performed accompaniment in their lessons, and they generally recognized maqams in the accompaniment of the songs with maqam content, but they did not have enough knowledge on maqams such as suspended cadence, dominant and tonic. It was also determined that the rate of songs with maqam content is high in secondary-school music textbooks, and that music teachers need in-service training on accompaniment of songs with maqam content.
