Investigation of the success and attitude of secondary school students about smart board use and water education

In this study, the effect of water education using smart board on the academic achievement and attitudes of 8th grade students was investigated.In addition, students were informed about water. For the research groups, two 8th grade study groups were selected from different branches in Yavuz Selim Middle School in Muş 2016-2017 academic year. While one of these classes was determined as the experiment and the other as the control group, random selection was used. In this study, a 20-item achievement test that measures academic achievement against water education and a 32-item water attitude scale that measures attitudes towards water education were used. The students in the control group were instructed in the verbal narrative method from traditional education models, and in the experimental group by using the smart board used in modern education models. After the study, pre-test and post-test applications were conducted to measure the academic achievement and attitudes of the groups. All data in the achievement test and attitude scale were analyzed by SPSS-20 statistical program. The t-test was used to evaluate and interpret the available data. As a result of the analyzes, the effect of teaching using smart board on students' success was higher than the verbal narration method. It was concluded that there was a positive increase in the attitudes of the groups towards water but did not make a significant difference between the groups. In addition, the groups did not have enough knowledge about water education. In other words, it was concluded that water education was not sufficiently given in the curriculum.
