Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between middle school students’ levels of aptitude for physical education classes and their levels of satisfaction with physical education classes, and to determine whether these levels differ according to certain demographic variables. The research data were collected using the correlational survey model, a quantitative research method. The study population consists of a total of 500 students (n=252) girls and (n=248) boys enrolled at Turgut Özal Middle School in the Pursaklar district of Ankara during the 2025–2026 academic year. The data for this study were collected using the Personal Information Form developed by the researcher, along with the Physical Education Class Aptitude Scale and the Physical Education Class Happiness Scale. Descriptive statistics, t-tests, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), correlation analysis, and regression analysis were applied to the obtained data using the SPSS 27 (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) software package.
According to the research findings, a significant and positive correlation was found between middle school students’ interest in physical education classes and their levels of happiness. It was observed that students with high levels of interest, value, and self-efficacy regarding physical education classes also had high levels of happiness in those classes. Students who participate in licensed sports and are members of school sports teams had higher levels of aptitude and happiness compared to other students; however, a decline in aptitude and happiness levels was observed as grade levels increased. It was found that other demographic characteristics did not create a significant difference in aptitude and happiness levels.
In conclusion, it is assessed that increasing students’ interest in physical education classes has a positive effect on their happiness in the class. Accordingly, it is recommended that physical education classes be planned by taking into account students’ interests, needs, and individual differences.
