Relationship between physical education predisposition and basic psychological needs of middle school students

Abstract (EN)
In this research, it is aimed to determine the physical education predispositions and the basic psychological needs of middle school students within the context of some variables and to examine the relationship between these two features within the framework of this sample. The study group of the study, which is designed in the relational survey model, consists of 334 individuals consisting of 7th and 8th grade middle school students (average age of 13.08±0.81) studying at an educational institution affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in Sarıçam district of Adana in the 2018-2019 academic year. Questionnaire used as data collection tool; demographic information, Physical Education Predisposition Scale and Basic Psychological Needs Scale. Pearson correlation analysis, independent groups t test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) methods were used to determine the relationship between variables as well as descriptive statistical methods. The results of the study showed that the gender of the students did not make any difference in terms of physical education predisposition levels and basic psychological needs. However, within the scope of the class level, perceived income status, parental education status, leisure time and regular training status, significant differences were determined in the physical education predisposition levels and basic psychological needs of middle school students. In the context of some variables of secondary school students, the results of physical education predisposition and the basic psychological needs of these subjects are determined, some personal characteristics of the students showed a difference in physical education predisposition levels and basic psychological needs. As a result, the findings of the study showed that some variables affect the level of physical education predisposition of middle school students and basic psychological needs satisfaction levels. In addition, the psychological satisfaction level of the students and the positive relationship between the level of physical education predisposition showed that the phenomenon of sport had a direct effect on the psychological development of the students.
