Investigation of middle school students' values related to physical education and sport course

ABSTRACT Investigation of Values about Physical Education and Sport Lesson of Middle Students Purpose: The aim of this research is to investigate the middle school students' values about physical education and sport lesson according to some variables. Materyal and Method: As an investigation model, general browsing model is used. Investigation group form total 798 ( seven hundred nintey eight ) students. They are 395 (three hundred ninety five ) boys and 403 ( four hundred and three) girls students who study secondary school attached to Adıyaman Province National Education Directorate at the 2016-2017 Education and Instruction year. In this investigation, as data collection method, " physical education and sport lesson value scale ( BESDÖ) " developed by the researcher. Kruskal Wallis Test and Mann Whitney U Test are used for the data analysis. Level of significance become 0,05. Findings: Sport culture value average points of secondary school students are x=3,70 (1-5 minimum_maximum); healthy life value average points are x=4,15; cooperation value average points in sport are x=4,07; respect value average points in sport are x=4,10; national culture value average points are x=3,80 and awareness value average points are x=4,24. These informations are obtained. There is a difference among the values' points such as gender of the students, ages, classes, becoming a player of the school team, playing at a sport club, their own region and the level of their parents' education. But there is not any difference in the families' monthly incomes and the number of siblings. Conclusion: In this research, it is found that physical education value points of the students who study secondary school are high. The girl students' value points are higher. It is understood that as the age progresses, the students' value points decrease. When the settlement gets bigger, ıt is seen that the value points increase. It is found that the value points of the students who take part in the school club are higher than the other students. There is a medium significant relation between physical education and sport lesson value dimensions. Key words: Physical Education Lesson, Middle School, Student, Value, Values Education.
