Relationship between secondary school students' attitudes towards physical education and sports classes and their psychological resilience levels

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between middle school students' attitudes towards Physical Education and Sports Class and their psychological resilience levels. The relational screening model, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the study. The universe of the study is a total of 401 students attending Fethiye Yanıklar Secondary School (78 students) and Fethiye Silkar Günlükbaşı Secondary School (323 students) in the Fethiye district of Muğla province in the 2024-2025 academic year. The sample of the study is 174 students from the students in the universe. The data collection tool used in the study includes a personal information form, the Primary School Physical Education Class Attitude Scale and the Child and Youth Psychological Resilience Scale. SPSS 24. package program was used in the analysis of the research data. In the significance analyses between the variables, the significance level was taken as p=0.05. In the study, it was observed that the variables of gender, grade level, doing exercise or sports outside of school, duration of doing sports, family income status had an effect on the students' attitudes towards physical education and psychological resilience level, while the variables of age, doing sports regularly in a club, and having a licensed athlete in the family were not effective. In the study, it was concluded that the students' cognitive, affective and total attitude levels towards physical education and psychological resilience levels were high, that there was a positive relationship between attitudes towards physical education and psychological resilience, and that attitudes towards physical education were a significant predictor of the level of psychological resilience.
