Examination of the relation of the relationship between secondary students attitudes to physical education and sports and social skills (Example of Şanliurfa providence)

This study was conducted to examine the relationship between secondary school students' attitudes towards physical education and sports and social skills. While the population of the study consisted of secondary school students studying in Şanlıurfa in the 2022-2023 academic year, 764 secondary school students (407 female, 357 male) studying in Şanlıurfa in the 2022-2023 academic year voluntarily participated in the study. As a data collection tool; to learn demographic information of students "Personal Information Form", to measure attitudes towards physical education and sports "Attitude Scale to Physical Education and Sports" developed by Delicelioğlu (2018), and to measure social skill levels "Matson Social Skills Assessment Scale for Children" developed by Matson, Rotatory and Hessel (1983) then translated into Turkish by Bacanlı and Erdoğan (2003) are used in the research. SPSS 20.0 statistical package program is used to evaluate the data. The independent sample t-test was used to compare the sub-dimension values according to the variables of gender, working status of mother, working status of father, housing type, physical education teacher gender, participation in school sports, playing licensed sports, liking games and type of game; One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to compare the variables of grade, number of siblings, mother's education, father's education, mother's income and father's income. Pearson correlation analysis was used for the analysis of the relationship between the scale and sub-values. The level of significance in the analyzes was determined as 0.05 (p<0.05). In the results of attitudes towards physical education and sports, significant differences were determined according to the variables of gender, class, father's education level, mother's income status, housing type, participation in school sports and game liking. In social skills results, significant differences were determined according to gender, class, father's education status, mother's working status, mother's income status, father's income status, physical education teacher gender, licensed sports, game liking status and game type variables.
