The determination of middle school students environmental literacy levels

This research was conducted to determine the environmental literacy levels of students in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th middle school. The research is descriptive research and the screening model was used. The environmental literacy questionnaire including questions of environmental knowledge, environmental attitude, environmental interest and environmental behavior was applied to the middle school students. In the second part of the questionnaire, there are questions about the demographic information of the students. Data were gathered, 720 students from 3 different province and 5 different schools in 2014-2015. SPSS 17 program was used in the analysis of the data. The frequencies and percentages of answers given by students to tests were included. T-test was conducted to see if it differs according to sex knowledge, attitude, interest and behavior, which are environmental literacy elements. One way analysis of variance was conducted to determine whether there was a relationship between the level of environmental literacy of the pupils and the regions where their classes and parental education were experienced. Pearson's correlation analysis was used to identify the sub-dimensions of environmental literacy. Nevertheless, before and after the academic year 2013-2014, the environmental achievements in the middle school curriculum were identified, compared and classified as environmental information, environmental attitudes, environmental skills, and environmental behavior, which are the sub-dimensions of environmental literacy. It is also categorized according to levels of environmental literacy, nominal, functional, and operational environmental literacy levels. In terms of the relationship between sub-dimensions of environmental literacy and class levels, it was found that environmental education, environmentally related and environmentally related behaviors of the classes that were educated according to the renewed program were found to be higher, even though the number of environmental related gains was reduced in the renewed program.
