The effect of democratic attitudes of secondary school students on life satisfaction

Abstract (EN)

In this study, which aims to investigate the relationship between the secondary school students' democratic attitudes and life satisfaction, quantitative research methods have been applied. The universe of the research consists of 7th and 8th grade students of the schools in Şehitkâmil district in 2017-2018 academic year. The sample of the study consisted of 500 seventh and eighth grade students, 251 (51%) girls and 249 (49%) boys, who were randomly selected from 2 public secondary schools (Karasar, 1994). These students are studying at Vicdan Ahmet Güner Secondary School and Aysel Tekinalp Secondary School. In order to collect data, Lightning (2011) developed by the Democratic Attitudes and Diener, Emmons, Larsen and Griffin (1985) developed by highlanders and Baysal (2016) made by the validity and reliability of the conditions of Turkey Laws Satisfaction Scale was used. SPSS 22.0 program was used in order to make statistical analysis by editing the data. Percentage, frequency, arithmetic mean, t test and variance analysis were performed for the analysis of the data entered in SPSS program. As a result of the research, female students compared to male students; 8th grade students have more democratic attitudes than 7th grade students. However, life satisfaction of 7th grade students was higher than 8th grade students. At the same time, while there was no significant relationship between the monthly income of the family and the democratic attitude, it was concluded that as the monthly income decreased, life satisfaction decreased. A positive and significant relationship was found between democratic attitude and life satisfaction. Keywords: Democracy, Democratic Attitude, Life Satisfaction, Student, Secondary School
