Investigation of secondary school students' cruosity for science and their levels of reaching the scientific values

This study aims at analysing the interest of middle school students towards science lesson and to reach their scientific values. The research was carried out during the school year of 2018-2019 with middle school students studying in public schools in Van province Gürpınar. Maximum diversity sampling method was used to identify the participants. The research is descriptive and relational screening model was used. The data of the study were collected using this tools: "Interest Scale for Science Subjects" , "Scientific Values Scale" and "Personal Information Form". Descriptive statistical methods (Frequency, Percentage, Average, Standard deviation), Kruskal Wallis H-test, Mann Whitney U-test and correlation analysis were used in the study. According to the results of the research, the level of interest of science students towards science subjects and their level of achievement in scientific values are moderate, the level of interest in science subjects is significantly different in terms of gender, class level, and parental education, and the difference in the level of achievement of scientific values in terms of gender variable It was concluded that there was a significant difference between the level of class and the education level of parents, there was a moderate positive relationship between the interest in science subjects and scientific values. Concepts, stories and activities that aim to bring scientific values in science textbooks should be included. Considering the result of being more successful in learning topics of interest and curiosity, studies can be conducted to increase the level of interest in science subjects.
