Abstract (EN)

This study, which aims to investigate the summarizing self-efficacy of secondary school students in terms of gender, reading frequency, writing frequency and summarizing success variables, was conducted with 8th grade secondary schools students (n=206) in Gaziantep province as well as Şahinbey and Şehitkamil districts of Gaziantep. Correlational survey model -qualitative research design- was employed as research method. Summarizing Self-Efficacy Scale, Student Information Form, and Summarizing Source Text (Eskici) were used as data collection tools. The Story Summarizing Evaluation Rubric was benefited to determine the summarizing success of the students. Data obtained from study was analysed by using IBM SPSS Statistics 21.0 ve MS-Excel 2007. The study results demonstrate that while the perception of summarizing self-efficacy of 8th grade students was above the average, the perception of summarizing self-efficacy of girls are higher compared to boy. Another remarkable result of the study was that there is a significant relationship between between the reading frequency of students and Summarizing Self-Efficacy Scale(SSE Scale) as well as sub-dimensions of SSE scale (Reading for summarizition, and Summarizing writing sub-dimensions). Moreover, statistically, there was a low linear relationship between summarizing success of students and Summarizing Self-Efficacy(SSE) Scale as well as as well as sub-dimensions of SSE scale (Reading for summarizition, and Summarizing writing sub-dimensions). Finally, study results revealed that the relationship between the writing frequency of students and Summarizing Self-Efficacy Scale as well as sub-dimensions of SSE scale (Reading for summarizition, and Summarizing writing sub-dimensions) was trivial.
