Using Turkish dictionary attitudes of secondary scholl students and teachers in Turkish lessons

It is a fact that one of the keys to success is using language well in ourday. The key to using language effectively is having rich vocabulary. Therefore, there are some certain activities to do in Turkish lessons and others in order to have this big vocabulary for students. One of the most important materials is school dictionaries to use in this kind of activities. When our students come across with an unknown word, it is vital that there are some qualifed dictionaries to consult in order to learn the meaning of this word. In this study, dictionary and dictionary science, Turkish lexicography history, the effect of habit of using dictionary on mother tongue, and practices to improve students' vocabulary are discussed. Moreover, with the quantitative researches, secondary school students' attitude towards using dictionary and Turkish language teachers' attitude towards using dictionary are tried to be identified. Also, with the results that are obtained with this study, some suggestions are given about future steps.
