Abstract (EN)

In this study, teachers' opinions were taken about the place of speaking education in Turkish lessons. 40 teachers working in various regions of Turkey participated in the study. The teachers were asked to evaluate the speaking achievements in the program, the activities in the Turkish textbooks, the effect of the gender factor on the speaking skill, the problems experienced by the students during the speaking activities, and the competencies of the students. The data in the research were obtained through semi-structured interviews with the qualitative research method. The data were analyzed by content analysis and the findings were interpreted. Based on the teachers' opinions, it was concluded that the achievements in the program were not evenly distributed, the speaking activities in the textbooks did not attract the attention of the students, the gender factor did not make a significant difference in the effect of speaking skills, and the students were insufficient in their speaking skills.
