The relationship between intellectual capital levels and leadership capacities of middle schools

The purpose of this research is to investigate the relationship between intellectual capital levels and leadership capacities of middle schools. Teachers working in state middle schools in Ankara province Altındağ, Çankaya, Etimesgut, Gölbaşı, Keçiören, Mamak, Pursaklar, Sincan and Yenimahalle districts participated in the research carried out in the relational screening model in the 2020-2021 academic year. A total of 528 teachers' questionnaires were analyzed using the stratified sampling method. To determine the intellectual capital levels and leadership capacities of middle schools; "Intellectual Capital Scale" developed by Stewart (1997) for businesses and adapted to school and Turkish by Karakuş and Çobanoğlu (2013) and the "Leadership Capacity Scale in Schools (OLKS)" developed by Lambert (2003) and adapted into Turkish by Kılınç, Büyüköztürk and Altun (2014) was used in the study. Teachers' views on the intellectual capital levels and leadership capacities of middle schools are presented as percentage, frequency, mean and standard deviation calculations and in order to solve the sub-problems of the study one-Way Analysis of Variance, t test and multiple correlation analysis from parametric tests were used. In addition, simple linear regression analysis was applied to determine the effect of intellectual capital and its sub-dimensions on leadership capacity. As a result of the research, it was concluded that the perceptions of teachers regarding the intellectual capital level of state middle schools are at the level of "I agree" and their perceptions of their leadership capacity are at the level of "We have made good progress in this direction". There is a significant difference between the education level and the human capital sub-dimension, branch and cooperation and joint responsibility. In addition, it has been determined that there is a significant difference in the perceptions of intellectual capital and leadership capacity and all its sub-dimensions, according to the districts where the middle schools are located. There is a meaningful positive correlation between intellectual capital levels and leadership capacities of middle schools in the study. According to the results of regression analysis, it is determined that intellectual capital is a predictor of leadership capacity and it has been concluded that it has a positive effect on leadership capacity.
