Evaluation of postoperative patient satisfaction after orthognathic surgery

The aim of this study was to evaluate the postoperative satisfaction of the patients who attended to Gazi University Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic for dentofacial deformity correction and underwent orthognatic surgery. 36 subjects (20 female,16 male) without any syndromes who received orthognatic surgery at least 6 months ago and whose orthodontic treatment were finished,were included in this study. Patients were divided into three groups as Lefort I osteotomy (Group1),BSSRO (Group 2) and bimaxillary surgery (Group 3) according to surgical technique. Patients were asked to complete a form including demographic information, anamnesis and Post Surgical Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire (PSPSQ),a questionnaire which is used to assess patient satisfaction after surgical operation. The statistical analysis was performed with SPSS 20,0 with a significance level of p<0,05. In all groups,a high postoperative satisfaction was found when the functional and psychological outcomes of the orthognatic surgery were evaluated but there was no significant difference among the groups. There are some limitations of this study: the sample size was small and postoperative questionaire application time couldn?t be standardised. Future large scale research is needed in order to assess satisfaction in subgroups of age,sex,education level,severeness of the deformity and fixation techniques.
