Abstract (EN)

This research is a descriptive study conducted to evaluate the psychosocial needs and mental health of patients hospitalized in the orthopedics and traumatology service. The sample of the study consisted of 140 patients who received inpatient treatment in the orthopedics and traumatology service for at least one week. The interview form consists of 11 section in line with Gordon's Functional Health Pattern Model. Each section has sub-questions. Additionally, the Brief Symptom İnventory was used. While evaluating the study data, quantitative variables were shown with mean, standart deviation, median, min and max values and qualitative variables were shown with descriptive statistical methods such as frequency and percentage. Shapiro Wilks test and Box Plot graphics were used to evaluate the suitability of the data for normal distribution. Mann Whitney-U Tset was used to evaluate variables that did not show normal distribution according to two groups. Kruskal Wallis test was used to compare three groups or more, and Dunn test was used to determine the group causing the difference. To evaluate the relationships between variables, Spearman's correlation analysis wasperformed according to distribution. The results were evaluated at the 95% confidence interval and the significance level was p<0.05. 41.4% (n=58) of the patients were female and 58.6% (n=82) were male. The average age is 47.12±16.89. the average duration of hospital stay of the patients was 11.48±7.85 days. The patients showed the highest rate of depression (11.37±8.80) followed by anxiety (8.31±8.73). other symptom rates are negative self (8.01±7.84), somatization (5.89±5.00), hostility (6.70±5.27). Brief Symptom İnventory mean score was found to be (40.98±31.17). İt was found that being away from work during the illness increases the symptoms of depression. İt has been observed that the positive impact of family relationships and strength of social support during the disease process are effective in reducing symptoms.
