Abstract (EN)

This research is based on "The Foreign Painters who came to Turkey from Europe in the Orientalist Period and Their Effects to the Turkish Art of Painting" and has been prepared for the purpose of determining the foreign painters who came to Turkey, to examine their works and to fix their effects to "the Turkish Art of Painting". In the first part of this study, it has been studied the Ottoman Empire's turning its direction to the West and its cultural interaction with the West. In the second part; the meaning of "Orientalism" which designates the title of this thesis, history of Orientalism and the subjects of the works which were created in the orientalist style have been defined. In the third part; Turkish Orientalist Painter Osman Hamdi Bey's life and his sense of art are explained and his sense of style is discussed. Furthermore, the lives and works of the other eastern artists who worked in the orientalist style are also examined. In the fourth part of the thesis; lives and the senses of art of western orientalist painters take place; and eighty-two pictures belong to those painters are determined and transformed to catalogues and analyzed according to the four disciplines such as workshop, history of art, aesthetics and critics of art, and therefore the fifth part is formed. According to the results obtained from the catalogues, a "Table of Comparison and Evaluation" is made. In the light of the datum of this table, "Evaluation and Conclusion" which forms the sixth part of this study is prepared. This research revealed that the western orientalist painters have a common approach from the point of subject, although there were many differences between them such as the countries where they came from and the years they lived in. Some of those painters whose lives and senses of art are examined, were invited to the Ottoman Palace and became "the Painter of the Palace", and rewarded with the Order of Sultan or they contributed to the creation of the Palace collections. The greatest contribution and effect of the painters of this period to the Turkish Art of Painting consist of they were fundamentally being the teachers of the Turkish painters. $00$
