Abstract (EN)

While defining orientalist painting, this study was carried out in order to examine why studies on private spaces, which are frequently encountered among the examples of orientalist painting, are more preferable. First of all, the concept of orientalism in the Western World was examined, and while this concept was being examined, research was carried out on why the East and the concepts specific to the East became an object of interest, along with social, political and cultural factors. The subject of the research was supported by giving examples of the interior painting, which is frequently included in the history of art, with its definition and examples from different periods. The general lines of the concept of the intimacy and its counterpart in the art of painting have been included in the research subject in order to explain the private spaces in the Orientalist painting, which will be mentioned later. Orientalist painting still continues to be the focus of attention from past to present. Considering that the concept of privacy is still open to scrutiny and arousing curiosity, we can analyze at some points why the private spaces used in Orientalist painting are the most preferred spaces during the construction phase. The people of the East and their way of life will continue to be a matter of curiosity today, as they were in the past, with the influence of both the prohibitions of religion, of which geography is predominantly a member, and the fantastic and sometimes even fictional stories told about the East.
