Case study on orienteering event in urban organizations

Regarding local orienteering organisations ? analysis of Ankara sample-, first of all, development progress of worlwide orienteering organisations are viewed in order to enlighten for this thesis. In addition, concepts such as City and Recreation are examined so as to make it much more understandable and ?Ankara? city is selected to be explicated as an example for local orienteering activities within TurkeyIn this research, orienteering activities organized within a city (park, campus, city, show etc) are discussed and mainly ?park orienteering? is focused on explaining that how park orienteering is effective on the presentation of orienteering; the most convenient places for the first education phase of orienteering are parks; how enjoyable activity it is that many participants can join and a new re-creative activity that arises within the city. Moreover, developments of park orienteering activities within Turkey and Ankara are analyzed; the difference on the participant numbers compared to classic orienteering is discussed ; the organizational issues such as how short time it takes and how visual quality it has are observed; and the way to practise this re-creative activity, both individually and as a group, without going far away from the city center is emphasized in the light of the information obtained by scanning literature.Once orienteering?s becoming widespread among the civilians, local orienteering activities have begun to be organized. First activities were held in Ankara, then spread to many cities of Turkey. Park orienteering races are organized in various cities. These organizations have made good impact on orienteering?s presentation/introduction and provided development/progress. Generally, these introductive activities have started to be organized by the leadership of universities, but later on, federations continue to maintain these activitiesBesides the fact that park orienteering activities, which are considered as re-creative activity, can be applied by eveyone, Like the other nonolympic games orienteering wants to be an olympic game too. Park orienteering activities, which are acceptable to join olyimpic games, is considered as the first one of Orienteering types.The most urgent need of high standarts of orienteering organizations had been worked on and as a result new model is established.Key word: Orienteering, Park, Organization, Sport
