1877-1878 Ottoman-Russo war in Ottoman press (93 War)

At the Crimean War, Russia was defeated by the Ottoman Empire and European its supporters, France and England. It tried to reverse this defeat by pursuing an active policy in the Balkans especially beginning in the 1870s. The Ottoman-Russian War that broke out in April 1877 was a result of Russia?s Balkan policy as much it was of Ottoman policies in the peninsula, social, economical, political and cultural changes there.This thesis looks not only at the Balkan crisis but also at the war that it led to. More importantly it analyzes how Ottoman press approached the war, the reasons for it and its results. Related to this it also presents censorship policies of the government that played an important role in expression of thoughts and news on the war.
