Abstract (EN)

Today, Kiğı, which is a district and district center of Bingöl province, is located in the middle of Erzurum, Erzincan, Tunceli and Elazığ provinces. Conquered by the Islamic armies under the command of Velid in 640, Kiğı has been a border region and an area of struggle between Byzantium and Muslim Arabs since then. With the entry of the Seljuks into Anatolia, Kiğı met Turkish domination for the first time. Kiğı, which is within the borders of the Mengücek principality and is affiliated with this principality, along with Erzincan, Kemah, Divriği and Şebinkarahisar, was included in the territory of the Anatolian Seljuk State during the reign of Alaeddin Keykubad. After the Battle of Kösedağ, Kiğı and its surroundings were captured by the Mongols for a while. In the 19th century, Karakoyunlu dominance is observed. In 1468, we see Akkoyunlu dominance in the region captured by Uzun Hasan. XVI. Kiğı and its surroundings, which fell within the sphere of influence of the Safavid State established in Tabriz at the beginning of the 19th century, came under Ottoman rule in 1515, together with Bayburd, Kemah and Erzincan. Kiğı, which gained sanjak status as of this date, was given to the disposal of Diyarbekir Beylerbeyi Bıyıklı Mehmed Pasha. The first census of the Kiğı sanjak, together with the entire Diyarbekir province, was made in 1518 (h.924). During the rule of the Ottoman Empire, Kiğı Sanjak stood out as a mining center. Kiğı mines and their operations, which were affiliated with the Mining Trust in Sivas, were seen as an important center that met the mining needs of the Ottoman Empire.
