The prince institution of The Ottoman Empire and the realm of the magnificent Sultan Suleyman

The bright times of their states were generally experienced when well-trained statesmen and talented rulers took over the administration. In the age of monarchies, where rulers had greater powers and responsibilities than democratic systems, it was of great importance that candidates for rulers should be well educated in all aspects. For this, as in the Ottoman Empire, structures were established to train candidate rulers in all contemporary eastern and western civilizations. The forms of these structures are directly related to the succession systems of states. In the Ottoman Empire, where the sovereignty was transferred on the basis of ancestry, the institution undertaking this duty is called the "Prince Institution". This institution, which has undergone changes over time, has operated as the sending of princes to various cities as governors in the classical age, and before asceding throne, the experience and knowlwdge of princes in their sancaks set up a substracture for being good sultan. Ottoman princaplity institution, Central Asian understanding of inheritance has developed based on Oghuz tradition and Islamic law. Being the prince of Suleiman the Magnificent, which is the subject of our study, coincided with the last years of Bayezid II.'s reign, when this institution was the strongest in all aspects. Although little is known about his principality, Suleiman the Magnificent's military, administrative and literary skills show the success of the prince institution in raising the people of that period. However, the tendency of historians to focus on sultans, not princes, and the fact that the first years of his princes were in the shadow of his father and uncles caused us to know very little about Prince Suleiman. A small amount of information about Prince Suleiman can be found in archive documents and between the lines of chronicles. While discussing the principality of Suleiman the Magnificent with together the institutional structure, our aim is to understand the conditions of the environment in which he grew up and to explain the factors by which the institution of princes reached the level that would raise powerful sultans.
