Abstract (EN)
Photography has become a necessity in our lives today and thanks to technology it's easier to reach and its use has spread. Because of their ability to grab people's attention, last a lifetime and be found over social media, photographs have turned into an important communication tool. On the other hand, documented photography is used to take notes in history and show the generations to come today's current events, culture and nature. Even though the Ottoman period bird palaces were traditional too the Ottoman architecture, today neither their architectural use nor their function is known. The Ottoman period bird palaces have begun of on illustrated catalogue to inform the next generation. In this study, the important samples of the Ottoman period bird palaces were aimed to get recorded using documented photography. The recorded photographs would then be used as the foundation for the "Bird Palaces Of İstanbul During The Ottoman Empire Period" catalogue. During this study, these locations were visited and observed: Amcazade H. Sıbyan School, Arap Hanı, Ayazma Mosque, Bali Paşa Mosque, Bereketzade Madrasah, Büyük Selimiye Mosque, Büyük Yeni Han, Darphane-i Amire, Eyüp Sultan Mosque, Feyzullah Efendi Madrasah, Halep Passage, Laleli Tomb, Necati Bey Street no. 136 Store, Seyyid Hasan Paşa Madrasah, Süleyman Halife Sıbyan School, Şah Sultan School, Şeyh Davud Hanı, Taksim Meksemi and Yeni Valide Mosque. Whilst the bird palace were pictured their architectural structure and fields were noted down. With images of the bird palaces, we have left both written and visual data for the generations to come about these rate creations, comments about their structure and the building they are found on. Additionally, an illustrated catalogue was prepared to show pictures of the Ottoman bird houses and maps of where they are located. Photographs of the structures that are hosted on the bird houses and examination notes can be found in the catalogue.
