Abstract (EN)

In this study, all the vocational schools and their buildings have been researched in the capital of Ottoman Empire in İstanbul in 19th century. This study is composed of six chapters. In the first chapter, the definition of a problem is given and purpose of the study is examined. In the second chapter, all the traditional educational institutions that have been organized since the beginning of an empire have been examined. The general structure of the education is described under two headings, civilian educational institutions and educational institutions which are connected to the empire. In the third chapter, the general structure of the 18th century education system and ınnovations in military training began with Selim III. period, were examined through the newly established military educational institutions In the second part of the chapter describes the recent developments in the 19th century empire's education system. For disseminating the civic education, opened councils, prepared regulations were examined. In the fourth chapter, the overall structure of vocational and technical education in Ottoman Empire, is briefly summarized and the developments observed in this area in the 19th century, which is covered by our thesis was examined. xvii In the fifth chapter, the entire vocational schools in Istanbul and their buildings from the beginning of the 19th century were examined. Given the conditions of the period, it can be said that small parts of vocational schools have a building that speciliazed for education. Many schools have trained in some of the existing administrative buildings and mansions. Therefore, all school buildings shifted continuously -To get specialized education or not- are described.
