Abstract (EN)
Miniature art, which has a deep-rooted history starting from the first Turkish civilizations to the present day, is a painting art that stands out with its unique techniques. The city depictions or descriptions of the Ottoman miniature art in this art are generally only addressed in terms of topographic city depiction or cartography in terms of document quality. However, since miniature is essentially an art of painting, it is insufficient to explain these depictions only with concepts of geography science. The city depictions in miniature reflect not only the physical structure of space, but also the social, cultural and aesthetic understanding of the period. Therefore, in this thesis, terms such as topography, portolan, cartography and map will be redefined by associating with the nature of art and city-stated miniatures will be examined from an artistic perspective. Although many books and articles show that miniatures depicting cities are attributed only to Matrakçı Nasuh and Piri Reis, such works are known to have been produced by many different knockouts. In this context, the association of city depictions in Ottoman miniature art with certain names only, i.e. whether these depictions are limited to these embroidery will be examined and their current reflections will be investigated.By making the definition of the concepts of map, topography and portolan attributed to city depictions, the works in Ottoman miniature art will be evaluated and classified by evaluating from which perspectives they can be examined in a specific framework and in relation to the availability of city depictions.
