Abstract (EN)
In the Ottoman Empire, industrialization efforts, which have been intensified since the beginning of the 19 th century, brought with the necessity of training qualified personel to work in newly developing industrial branches. This situation has led to a change in the concept of vocational training carried out by master-apprentice relations within the Ahi organization and guild (lonca) establishment from foundation to the mid-19 th century. As a result of this industrial schools have been started to train qualified personel in the modern industrial conditions that started to develop in the country. The first example of these schools was the correctional facility (ıslahhane) established in Nis in 1863 by Mithat Pasha. As soon as this initiative was successful, many correctional facilities were opened in the Balkans and Anatolia. Later, these institutions rapidly spread throughout the country. In the following years, the correctional facilities evolved into industrial municipalities. The Selanik School of Industry, which was the subject of our work, was a vocational education institution was initially opened as a correctional facility and then turned into an industrial school. In this study, the establishment, development, educational activities of the The Selanik School of Industry and the situation of the school after the occupation of Thessaloniki were tried to be examined. Keywords: Correctional Facility, Industry School, Selanik.
