Coppering in Tokat and copper goods in dailly life durring the XIX th century

Copper has been used by many civilizations in making weapons, handicrafts, kitchen utensils and ornaments. During the Ottaman Empire period, copper was used frequently used in daily life, especially in homes, especially in kitchens. Apart from this, the use of copper in the making of coins, pots, pans, basins, pitchers, trays, jewelry and bronze ball casting has increased the importance of copper. It has been observed that coper items were abundant in Ottoman estate records. For example, in the inheritanc records in the kadi registers, it is seen that almost every house has copper items such as a pan, a bowl, a tray and a cauldron. Therefore, it should be noted that copper has an important place in Turkish culinary culture, and accordingly the tinsmith industry has an important place. The province of Tokat was used as the center of copper, especially during the Ottoman Empire period. Various kitchen, bathroom and household goods and different export products were processed by coppersmiths in Tokat. During the Ottoman Empire period, coppersmith had a very important place economically. Tokat smelter, which was opened in Tokat during this period as an important indicator of copper mining, increased the importance of the city. Smelters or foundries are places with furnaces, where the raw metal is separated and cleaned from other substances, and the pure mineral is melted and turned into ingots. Within the scope of this study, coppersmithing and copper items in daily life in Tokat province in the 19th century were examined and information about copper processing was tried to be given.
