Abstract (EN)

The subject of this thesis is online recognition of Ottoman letters that drawn on program interface by a mouse and transferring to Ottoman text editor. The program was prepared with Delphi 6.0 programming language. Recognized letters were transfered to Ottoman text editor in Unicode character set. Direction coding method related to structural approach has been used in the program. First of all, the characteristic features of drawing such as; directional features, gradient of starting and ending points, and the distance of points to letters and each other are calculated. Then, this calculated features are compared with the letters? features in the letter table. The drawing is defined with the most similar letter. As the main features are the defined features of that letter, all the letters which are drawn according to general rules are recognized. General recognition rate of Ottoman letters is 92%. In this work, as the feature tables are prepared according to Naskh fonts, the correct results could be found on this font. When the feature tables are occured according to other fonts we could supply the recognition of the other fonts. Finally, the recognized letters are transferred to Ottoman text editor in an editable form.
