A salafist movement in the Ottomans: Kadizâdelis

This study aims to examine the Ottoman Empire, Kadızâde Mehmed Efendi and his people who lived in the 17th century in terms of Salafi. This movement, whose effects continued throughout the 17th century, affected the Ottoman Empire in terms of political, social and religious aspects. In this study, the economic, political, geographical and religious ideas that led to the emergence of the Kadızâdeliler Movement were examined; Then, the historical process and development of the Kadızâdeliler Movement are discussed. The personalities who were the leaders of the Kadızâdeliler Movement were examined separately and the issues brought to the agenda under the intellectual leadership of these personalities were examined. It has been emphasized that the Kadızâdeliler Movement is a movement belonging to the Salafi system of thought, based on its views, creed interpretations, and approaches to Sufi people. Considering that the "Salafism" movement and the Salafist thought system are still being discussed today, it is obvious that this study is a current issue. From this point of view, it is aimed in our study to determine the sectarian affiliations of the Kadızâdeliler Movement and to reveal this movement as Ottoman Salafism.
