Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT Berk BAYTAROĞLU, Effect of osteoporosis on Resonance Frequency. Başkent University Institute of Health Sciences, Audiology Master's Thesis, 2018 In our study, it was aimed to examine the resonance frequencies of these patients with multifrequency tympanometry considering the decrease of mineral density in the unit volume of the postmenopausal osteoporosis patients will affect the middle ear ossicles. For this purpose, 32 volunteers (64 ears) participated in the otoscopic examination of 45-65 years of age with the diagnosis of Postmenopausal Osteoporosis Patient by Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Department at the Audiology Unit of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Baskent University, Age and Sex 32 (64 ears) healthy volunteers participated. Immunansmetric tests were performed after participating in an otoscopic examination by an ENT specialist. Resonance frequency values taken from both ears (128 ears) of all participants were taken into consideration. The mean age of the patients with postmenopausal osteoporosis was 59.20 ± 4.53, the mean age of the control group was 57.11 ± 5.27 and the difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.53). Pure tone averages of patients with postmenopausal osteoporosis were calculated to be higher than control group. This result was statistically significant (p <0.05). In the postmenopausal osteoporosis patients, the right ear resonance frequency average was 945,588 ± 133,3528 Hz, the resonance frequency average for the left ear was 963,235 ± 122,6654 Hz and the resonance frequency average for the right ear of the control group was 922,857 ± 126,8063 Hz, the frequency average was found to be 944,286 ± 125,3063 Hz. There was no significant difference between the resonance frequency of the postmenopausal osteoporosis patients and the resonance frequency of the control group. Key Words: Resonance Frequency, Multifrequency Tympanometry, Osteoporosis, Postmenopausal Osteoporosis
