Abstract (EN)
Goths, origin from Scandinav Peninsula, who is stated among Germanic people. Ostrogoths left after the migration of Goths to the north of the Blacksea and their relationship with Byzantine Empire is based on the Battle of Hadrianopolis, which occurred under the influence of the mass population movement created by the Migration of Tribes. Relations directly between two sides temporarily stopped due to important part of Ostrogoths going under the rule of the European Huns. After Nedao War the rule of Huns got weakened in Europe this leaded Ostrogoths to get their freedom. They made contact with Byzantine Emperor and they placed in Pannonia because of the contination threats from Huns. In this way, they both obtain land for themselves and protected the west borders of Byzantine from dangerous situations. With Theodoric Amal's coming to head of the Ostrogoths and the activities he carried out agains the Byzantine Empire, emperor Zeno started to feel discomforted from presence of Ostrogoths in Balkans. He picked the way sending both Theodoric Amal and Ostrogoths to Italy on Odoacer, who ended the Western Roman Empire. The Ostrogoths, who defeated Odoacer, went to the Italy and established their own kingdom, added a new dimension to their links with Byzantion. The Senate of Rome, Pope and other kingdoms in Europe get involved between relationship of two sides. Arianist Ostrogoths could intervene to Religious relationships between Konstantinople and Roma, but on the other hand their king Theodoric Amal kept Senate of Roma under control and he was picking one of the conculs. After the death of Theodoric Amal, the management discussions among the Ostrogoths put the kingdom in weak situation. Iustinianus, who throned on Byzantine, started military expedition to Italy in 536 for tracing the politic of reconquested the lands of Empire of Rome. The relationship between two sides came to end after the struggles till 556, with the rule of Ostrogoths in Italy ended. Key Words: Ostrogoths, Empire of Byzantine, Migration Period, Balkans, İtaly
