The effect of estrogen hormone on leptin receptor in colon of ovariectomized rats

The effect of leptin hormone on regulation of colon function is very important. Some disorders are known to occuring relation to decreasing ovarian steroid hormone levels. To determine the effects of ovariectomy and estrogen on leptine receptors localized in colon and the role of leptin and its receptor in the pathogenesis of these disorders was aimed.Ovariectomized rats were divided into three control (C18, C90, C162) groups and estrogen (E18, E90, E162) groups. The control and estrogen groups were administrated 0.2 ml sesame oil and 25 ? g 17 ß-estradiol respectively. Rats were killed by cervical dislocation at 18, 90 and 162 hours respectiveley. Colon samples were removed and stained using immunohistochemistry.Leptin receptor intracytoplasmic expression was observed in crypt epithelium and plexus myentericus of colon. Estrogen increased in leptin receptor expression in plexus myentericus (p<0.01) at 18 hours, in crypt epithelium (p<0.05) and plexus myentericus (p<0.01) at 90 hours, in crypt epithelium (p<0.01) at 162 hours.It was concluded that the effect of leptin receptor in pathagenesis of some disorders inspected in lack of estrogen such as constipation, inflammatuar bowel disease is important.
