Violence practices and combat strategies encountered by foreign female employees in hotel businesses

This study examines the violence experienced by foreign women working in hotel businesses and the strategies they use to cope with it. With globalization and the growth of the tourism sector, the number of foreign female employees in hotels has increased. However, these workers are often subjected to discrimination and violence due to both their gender and foreign status. Recent academic studies have highlighted issues such as labor exploitation, personal safety concerns, and instances of mobbing in modern workplaces affecting women in the tourism sector. Nevertheless, the violence and resistance practices experienced by foreign female workers are often overlooked. It is important to conduct new research to understand the forms of violence foreign women face in the tourism industry and to raise awareness on this issue. In this study, semi structured interview forms were used, and face-to-face interviews were conducted. The findings reveal that foreign female employees are subjected to physical, psychological, verbal, economic, and sexual violence. In this context, the study identified individual/collective, overt/covert, and violent/non-violent resistance practices employed by the workers in response to these acts of violence. Based on the findings, recommendations have been developed for industry managers and future research.
