The effect of green organizational climate and green behavior on job satisfaction in hotel business: The case of Muğla

Abstract (EN)

With the increase in competition, it has been seen that the management of businesses that start new ventures environmentally friendly management by making radical changes in its structures adopt the enviromentally-friendly concept. Additionally, hotel businesses, which interact with individuals and the environment and adopt a new look change their management understanding. Hotels are businesses providing temprorary accommodation for individuals, food and beverage, entertainment, and places where some social needs are met. But hotel businesses where competition is high has also increased the damage to environment. Some hotel businesses follow new policies towards the environment and against the damage to it in their management and practices. Firstly, they aim some improvements in practice, starting from the management structure of the business to the bottom environmental behavior, including employees in their units. Another goal is here to spread awareness of the environment, which has been tried to be created and to promote competition with other businesses. Therefore, they adopt a green organizational climate to achieve these goals. Other goals are green adoption of the organizational climate in business and among its employees, ensuring sustainability with the aid of environmental awareness and eliminating damage to the environment by minimizing the use of resources. When it comes to this thesis study, green organizational climate and green effect of behavior on job satisfaction has been examined. A total of 383 valid data has been reached by means of the quantitative research method. Descriptive data analyzes and difference tests were applied, and the validity of the scales was tested by exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Regression analysis was used to test the hypotheses. According to the results of the regression analysis, the green organizational climate has a significant and positive effect on the green behaviors of the employees. While compulsory green behaviors of employees affects job satisfaction significantly and positively, voluntary green behaviors do not affects job satisfaction. The green organizational climate has a significant and positive effect on the job satisfaction of the employees. Demographic characteristics such as gender, age, education and hotel type differentiate the effects on green behavior it has also been seen that those demographic features have shown some significant differences.
