The implementation and outcomes of an intensive behavioral home intervention program (OCİDEP) for children with asd

Intensive Behavioral Intervention (IBI) is utilized widely in many countries with children with ASD. Research on IBI provided scientific evidence on increasing intelligence scores, facilitating developmental skills, decreasing autistic symptoms, and increasing the probability of attending inclusive educational environments. Implementing IBI is a rather new development in Turkey. Intensive Behavioral Home Intervention Program called OCIDEP is one of the IBI-type programs.The purpose of the present study was to investigate the implementation process of the OCIDEP home program with two children with ASD. During the study both qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis methods were systematically and reflectively utilized on a regular basis. Data were analyzed inductively during and after the data collection process.Major findings of the study were as follows: (a) some of the guideliness did not work or had to be modified, (b) some of the preset target skills had to be changed, (c) some behavioral and instructional problems arised during program implementation and they were solved by various methods, (d) team members made various progress, (e) both children showed progress in the developmental areas included in the program as well as not included in the program, (f) team members and parents were very impressed with the progress they observed at the children. Moreover, all stakeholders believed that several factors influence the quality of the program.This study is expected to provide implications regarding initiating and delivering IBI-type programs by professionals, paraprofessionals, and parents in Turkey as well as contribute to the existing international literature in the field.
