Effectiveness of high probability request sequence in the decreasing of problem behaviors with autism spectrum disorder

Abstract (EN)

The level of problem behavior in children with autism spectrum disorder is higher than their typically developing peers and other developmental disability groups. The researcher aimed to examine the effectiveness of the high probability request sequence in decreasing the problem behaviors of children with autism spectrum disorder whose function is to escape and increase the skills they perform at a low probability. In addition, the opinions of the mothers of the participating children and the specialists in special education about high probability request sequence in the study. Two females and a boy aged between 48-88 months participated in the study. The researcher conducted, a functional behavioral assessment process including experimental functional analysis sessions was identified and the functions of problem behaviors of children with autism spectrum disorder. After determining the functions of the problem behaviors, the effects of high probability request sequence on increasing low probability skills were tested with the A-B-A-B model. Findings indicated that the high probability request sequence is effective in decreasing the problem behaviors of children with autism spectrum disorder whose function was escape and increasing the skills they perform at a low probability. Mothers of the children participating in the study and specialists in special education have expressed positive opinions about the practice of high probability request sequence.
