Abstract (EN)
Investigation of The Effect of Melatonine on the Osseointegration of Titanium Implants In Ovariectomized Rats The aim of this study was to examine the effect of externally given melatonin hormone on the level of osteointegration in titanium implants applied to the tibia of the subjects, considering the effects of melatonin hormone on bone metabolism in ovariectomized rats. For this purpose, the subjects; It was divided into four groups as Control (n=12), Ovariectomy Group (n=12), Ovariectomy + Melatonin Dose 1 Implant Group (5mg/kg) (n=12), Ovariectomy + Melatonin Dose 2 Implant Group (10mg/kg) (n=12) . All rats were sacrificed at the end of 3 months following surgical placement of the implants. Bone biomarkers, alkaline phosphatase, calcium, phosphorus, analyzes were made from the blood serums obtained. Peri-implant Bone Filling and Bone Implant Contact findings of the subjects were analyzed by undecalcified histological analysis method. In addition, femur and jaw bones of all subjects were taken and dexa analysis was performed in the department of nuclear medicine and bone mineral density analyzes were performed. Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) values of the control group were statistically significantly lower than the other groups (p<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of calcium values (p>0.05). Phosphorus values of the ovariectomy+melatonin dose-2 group were statistically significantly higher than the control and ovariectomy groups (p<0.05). Bone implant contact values of the ovariectomy group, were found to be statistically significantly lower than those of the Control and Ovariectomy+Melatonin dose-1 groups (p<0.05). Peri-implant bone filling values of the Ovariectomy group were statistically significantly lower than those of the Control and Ovariectomy+ Melatonin dose-2 groups (p<0.05). Femoral bone mineral density values of the Ovariectomy+Melatonin dose-2 group were found to be statistically significantly lower than the Control and Ovariectomy+Melatonin dose-1 groups (p<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of jaw bone mineral density values (p>0.05). Based on the limited results of this study, ovariectomy; It can be stated that ovariectomy-induced osteoporosis may adversely affect bone-implant connection and melatonin supplementation may improve the negative effect of osteoporosis on bone-implant connection.
