Evaluation of the relationship between CA125, lymph node metastasis and clinical parameters in ovarian cancer cases.

In the diagnosis of the tumor, biochemical markers [CA125, white blood cell (WBC), monocyte (MO), lymphocyte (LY), monocyte/lymphocyte(MO/LY)], lymph node metastasis(LNM), differentiation status, histological subtype and stage, acid cytology, sonographic findings, mass size are important. Because ovarian cancer presents with late symptoms, most patients are diagnosed at advanced stages, necessitating new and specific screening methods. The study included 142 patients who underwent surgery for ovarian cancer diagnosis at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic of Eskişehir Osmangazi University Hospital over the past 10 years. The patients' age, ovarian cancer stages, grade levels, cytology, LNM, referral to medical oncology and whether they received radiation and chemotherapy treatment were evaluated. The patients' ages ranged from 26 to 80, with an average age of 53.27. Of the 142 patients, 33 had endometrioid, 65 (45.8%) had serous, 23 (16.2%) had mucinous, 21 (14.8%) had clear cell ovarian cancer. There were 69 (48.6%) stage 1, 19 (13.4%) stage 2, 34 (23.9%) stage 3, 20 (14.1%) stage 4 patients. Grade 1 was observed in 9 patients (16.1%), grade 2 in 13 patients (23.2%), and grade 3 in 34 patients (60.7%). 6 patients (4.2%) received radiation oncology treatment, while 8 patients (8.4%) had endometrial cancer as a concomitant disease. Acid cytology positivity was present in 64 patients, LNM in 27 (25.2%), referral to medical oncology,chemotherapy treatment in 116 (83.1%). There were 14 (9.9%) patients with an Ex status. The relationship between ovarian cancer types was investigated by comparing biochemical markers in the patients preoperative blood tests, patient age, postoperative ascites cytology and LNM positivity. According to our results, CA125 values in patients with positive ascites cytology, LNM were significantly higher than in negative patients. No significant differences were found in MO/LY, WBC values in patients with positive acid cytology and LNM. High CA125 levels in patients with positive acid cytology and LNM contribute significantly to the diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Keywords: ovarian cancer, CA125, leukocyte, monocyte, lymphocyte
