Special education teachers' opinions on values education

Abstract (EN)
This research aims to reveal the opinions of special education teachers about values education. For this purpose, the case study design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. The research was carried out with the participation of 10 female and 6 male special education teachers who had at least four years of working experience and were special education graduates. Participating teachers were determined using the criterion sampling method. A semi-structured interview form was used to collect data. The interview form was created by the researcher by taking expert opinion. The obtained data were subjected to content analysis and codes and themes were reached. The data are described using tables. All of the teachers stated that it is possible to conduct values education in special education. Values education is important and necessary. Most of the teachers stated that they implemented values education; It states that the values of respect, love, responsibility, tolerance, cooperation, patriotism, honesty and sharing can be taught in special education. Family is seen as the key point in the values education process and it is stated that cooperation with the family is necessary. Teachers see themselves as practitioners of values education and emphasize that they are role models for students. It is stated that normal individuals can be taught the values of respect, tolerance, empathy, helpfulness, love, compassion, justice and acceptance the most regarding individuals with special needs.
