Abstract (EN)
Understanding individuals with special needs and supporting their social integration is a characteristic that every member of society should possess. Literature plays a crucial role in teaching people these qualities. Children's literature, in particular, is critical in ensuring these are learned at an early age and become established as behaviors. Therefore, children's novels about individuals with special needs are not only literary works but also tools for building respect for differences within societies. The purpose of this study is to examine children's novels featuring individuals with special needs. Fourteen best-selling children's novels about individuals with special needs, available on bookstores, were examined using document analysis. A book review form, developed from various studies in the literature, was used to collect the research data. The books were reviewed based on the topics identified in the form. The resulting data was then divided into themes and interpreted using descriptive and content analysis methods. According to the findings, the books emphasize the struggles of individuals with special needs against challenges, their efforts to exist in society, and the importance of social acceptance, respect for differences, and the support of family and friends. Consequently, children's novels about individuals with special needs are believed to be effective in fostering empathy, social justice, and fostering an inclusive understanding of society. The study offers several recommendations for writers, educators, and policymakers.
